During my short trip to Manila, I came across my late father’s mementos and was pleasantly reminded that he was a “huwarang o natatanging Pilipino” or a model citizen who was among the national heroes mentioned in Filipino elementary books where it says: “Ed Macion is a scientist who invented the fertiliser that could make pineapples grow throughout the year.” Plus his achievements were published in “Who is Who in the World” in 1996. That was our Papa Ed – a hard core scientist/agronomist/botanist/entomologist we will always be proud of.
