Nearly 200 Irish and members of marginalized communities braved the brutal Irish weather and convened recently at a Philippine-themed home in a rural parish in Ireland to celebrate diversity and inclusion.

Filipina advocate Vanda Brady of Cavan Cross Cultural Community organized the “Mullahoran Multicultural Coffee & Boxty Outdoor Event” at her Philippine-themed home to introduce over 10 nationalities, refugees, Irish travelers and LGBT enthusiasts to locals of the farming town in County Cavan. Likewise, the foreigners and new communities learned about the locally produced boxty potato bread and Irish music.

Philippine Honorary Consul to Ireland Raymond Garrett, Taipei Deputy Director Chen Chih-Hsun Chen, seven Irish politicians from Cavan, and the Mullahoran parish priest came despite the heavy storm.

The hosts and visitors shared their stories about making Ireland their home over ethnic hot drinks and international finger food which included the Philippine tablea, pork BBQ and lumpiang Shanghai that were served by Filipino meat factory workers.

Children went home with a goodie bag filled with international sweets plus Latvian dancers and Mullahoran musicians graced the occasion.
